Pope A F B, N.C. — A Pope Air Force Base Airman died Tuesday near Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday.
Senior Airman Ashton L.M. Goodman, 21, of Indianapolis, died after an improvised explosive device blew up. She was assigned to the 43rd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Pope.
Goodman is the fifth Pope Airman killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001, and the first from the 43rd Airlift Wing, officials said.

The old sarge has a heavy heart today, I feel the pain that this beautiful young lady’s family is feeling as they hang that Gold Star. So sad, thank God the brave people like Ashton are willing to stand up for our country, I will never forget.
It is always sad when we lose one of our own. My prayers will go out to this family for there loss.
I also send my prayers for her family and friends. I will always remember the sacrifices.
