Military Working Dogs

Military working dog handlers and military working dogs with the 332nd Security Forces Group wait for instructions to return to the aircraft from a helicopter crew chief during training April 21 at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. The training teaches the handlers and military working dogs how to safely and properly enter and exit aircraft, and prepares them for future air-assault missions.

There is actually an organization that was started by a veteran so that people can adopt these dogs once they are retired (or injured)instead of being put down. There are a lot of restrictions; (no kids, etc) because of the training they have recieved they tend to sometimes be more aggresive. Unfortunately I don't have the name of the place with me but I just recently got a flyer on it and this one person has managed to save a lot of miltary dogs and place them in loving homes where they can be loved and appreciated for all they have done for our service members.

AM,

Where would we be without K-9 troops? These dogs are beautiful and especially trained in all types of situations. Love the photo.

Hope you have a wonderful day, my friend. When you're talking to Mud Puppy, be sure to send him my best.

Blessings,
Mary

Love the "Doggles" on the dog in the background.

These dogs know no fear and will do anything their training requires without question (well, can you imagine a dog turning around and saying "HUH??!!") and will protect their handlers above and beyond their training. But they cannot receive medals for bravery. The Army deems that as diluting the honor given to soldiers. Of course that General never had a dog drag him away from machinegun fire, either.

The one in the back looks like a Belgian Malinois, just like the dog we used to have ("Buddy")! These working dogs are so devoted and deserve our honor for their hard work!

coffeypot...excellent comment. Why aren't the handlers asked what they think, or as you mentioned...ask those who have been saved by one of these four legged heroes!
