One more chapter of American history is closing and a brand new chapter will open next Tuesday.
President Bush is a patriot. In my heart, I believe he is a good man. On September 11th, he was an outstanding leader; and we have not had to endure such a tragedy since. While I do not agree with all of his decisions, I believe this man loves our country. He served our country in a manner which few men have had the privilege.
Historians will one day write of these last eight years.
I pray they are fair.
God Bless!

He governed too far to the left for my taste. But I whole-heartedly agree with your assessment. He kept us SAFE and that means a great deal in my book. He always had the country's best interests at heart and he is a good man. And I adore Laura, who was (IMHO) the best First Lady EVER! God bless them both in the days ahead, and I am indebted to their service to our nation. History will judge him more fairly in the days to come.
donna... thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! I totally agree with your final remark!
Good post Donna, I can agree with what you said.
The part about keeping us safe is the MOST important think a president can do for his country and he sure did that well.
I have much stronger and better feeling about him than you may as far as him governing too far to the left. You know you can't have it all. No President is Perfect.
dd2...The Office of President is such a huge task for any man. There will be 'setbacks' but oh, the good was so very good!
AM,
I loved President Bush and think he did a great job after 911. He kept both Americans and Canadians safe by giving our leaders advice. I think he was a good President and that he did his best, which is what counts. No one can ask for more.
Did you notice how much he's aged in the 8 years he's served? The Presidency is not an easy task and George W's was harder than most.
God Bless the Bush family as they leave the Presidency and continue with their lives. I do hope history is good to them.
Blessings,
Mary
I thought he gave a wonderful speech from his heart. I agree, he has kept us safe. I only hope the next administration realizes the threat that is out there. Thank you President Bush.
mary...I was amazed how much he aged in those eight years! I am grateful for the good he has done!
julie...I do pray our new leadership respects the good deeds of President Bush, and we don't take any steps backwards!
Shakespeare once wrote:
"Uneasy is the head the wears the crown"
The same can be said for any who hold an office or position of power.
When that office is one of leadership for one of the most powerful and influential countries? That stress and unease TRIPLE.
G.W.Bush has done a fair shake in keeping this country safe and stable. He's had tough decisions to make, and he's actually led us through some difficult times. I applaud his actions, and think that given time, enough naysayers will come to see that his hand guided us through more than was let on about.
Best wishes to the Bush family, and I'm anxious to see how the Obama camp measures up now....
jormengrund...the quote was perfect...thanks so much for posting! We need to pray for our country in the coming weeks and months!
As it always goes, the President gets all the credit, but also all the blame. We many not always agree with all of the choices our Presidents make, but in any case, as DD2 said, we can't have the whole package every single time.
And although I consider myself Liberal, I am thankful for all of the work President Bush did. And he deserves a graceful and respectful departure.
HL...he certainly does deserve our gratitude, it is quite a service to our country!
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cried as I listened to him last night....... I will miss him.... He is a man of God and served this country well.... I believe that one day history will list him as one of the few great leaders. I love your blog and will come back and visit often.......
denise...I thank you for stopping by and leaving such warm words.
I believe that GWB did an excellent job of leading this country. I don't people give him enough credit. And then there are those who put the blame on him alone when we are governed by a democracy. It is not one single person making the decisions.
Let me step off my box now. Thanks for speaking about this.
michelle...looking at the photo of him when he took office and the one on the bottom taken this past week...the man has been through a lot! It is not an easy job and thank goodness he took this challenge!
