What is Freedom?

According to “merriam-webster.com”:
Main Entry: free•dom
1: the quality or state of being free: as a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b: liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another: INDEPENDENCE

We hear so much about Freedom, but do we truly understand what it means?

So exactly what does Freedom mean to you?

Is it simply a state of mind?

Is it the ability to think, speak and act without restraint?

When one is Free, are they without responsibility?

At what point does morality and social constraints enter into Freedom?

What about our Blogging-Buddy, MudPuppy who is currently stationed in Afghanistan...how would he define Freedom today?

Would our Forefathers approve of what we have become as a Nation?

Is Freedom solely about our Constitution which allows us to vote, to attend Sunday Service, and to speak our mind?

Are we Free to take Freedom for granted?

Freedom, something that my ancestors fought for... the right to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to go about our daily lives without hindrance or fear. That and so much more... it would take me hours to list all that freedom means to me.

I certainly enjoyed MudPuppy's blog. Thanks for the direction. Praying for his and all deployed soldier's safety.

Blessings,
Mary

I believe that with freedom comes more responsibility. The responsibility to show other countries that freedom is something that each of us has been given as a gift by others who have paid a large price for. Freedom is something that should NEVER be taken for granted because there is always someone out there that is willing to do whatever it takes to take it away from us.
As for MudPuppy, I am sure that he would have a definition of freedom that would not only make everyone stop and think but he would do it in a way that would make many of us bow our heads in shame.

God Bless our Service Men and Women,
aam
