By DAN ELLIOTT

DENVER (AP) -- Some military veterans are angry that a World War II soldier who died in prison after pleading guilty to killing his wife is scheduled to be buried Tuesday in Denver's Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Raymond R. Sawyer, a former Marine from Colorado, died Aug. 11 in a Tucson, Ariz., state prison while serving 13 years for second-degree murder.

His wife, Frances A. Sawyer, was found strangled in August 1981 in Glendale, Ariz., where the couple lived. The case remained unsolved for 26 years.

Is it only a family matter where a loved one is buried?
Who should make the decision, who is to buried in our National Cemeteries?
If a soldier serves honorably, is this the only qualification or does how he lives the rest of his life factor into the equation?

Your turn................................

I have the same probably with the Asian characters...makes me nuts.

This is a tough question...I do think that you should live as you served, honorably..

Now a days you can barely get into the Military with any type of infraction, it doesn't matter what type it was.

Using the WV will help a lot. Don't know more than that.

Regardless of how is life turned out, for a moment in time he was a hero who fought the good fight. He should be honored for that...IMHO.

I think if you've served honorably, then you deserve the honor of being interred in the place reserved for such people. However, I do think killing your wife throws any and all honors you earned right out the window. Killing your wife shines dishonor on your fellow man/woman.

Hi, Airman Mom I am sorry you are having trouble with some commenters. If you do take your blog private I would appreciate it if I could be included.

If you have the time today pop over to my blog I have a song on my post today written by an Australian Country music star about serving troops.
She wrote it in response to a letter from a fan that rubbished her for supporting soldiers. I think she penned it well.

It is as applicable to your soldiers as it is to ours.
I wonder if you have heard it??

if you're convicted of a felony you lose (ahem, forfeit, your retirement and benefits. therefore it stands to reason, if you're convicted of a felony (ie murder) you should also lose all other military benefits and being buried in a national cemetery is one of those benefits.

period.
