September Stuff

September is one of those month; there simply are not enough hours in the day, enough days in the week or enough weeks in the month.

I. Love. September.

I love the days getting shorter, the nights getting cooler, the smell of logs burning in a fireplace. I love to see all the pretty faces of Pansies, the touch of a straw bale, and the oddity of corn stalks. I love that IHOP offers Pumpkin Pancakes and oh how I love to use my crockpot!

I. Love. September.

My birthday is in September... my mom always called me her 'last rose of summer'. God will bless our family with a baby girl this month. It is the month to celebrate the birth of one of my son-in-laws, my aunt, a good friend I have know since I was 17 years old and another friend I have known for almost 20 years!

September 11th is the tragic reminder of what terrorism is all about. We have been blessed to not know such a horrific event since 9/11, I pray our nation never relives that nightmare. If you don't own a flag, please buy one and proudly show our colors. I'll be posting much more about 9/11, as we approach the anniversary of atrocious attacks.

September is also Suicide Prevention Month. World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10th. Every year approximately one million people die by suicide-one death every two minutes. Suicide.org focuses on suicide prevention in the military. AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) hosts an "Out of the Darkness Walk" around the nation. I'm hoping to participate in the Frederick, Maryland walk on November 7th.

September is a month of change; not only the change of season, but the beginning of a new school year. September 2007 was the first time in 24 years I did not have a child to get prepared for school. Just think, I may never have to buy another box of colored pencils or another composition book! Sweet!
For those of you interested...September's birthstone is Sapphire and the flower is Forget-Me-Not. (wink-wink)

I love September too, although it is not quite cool enough yet here in OK. I love your "last rose of summer." What a wonderful thought!

My BD is also in September, but my mother would not describe me as the last rose of the summer. I would say she would have said ‘the last vine of poison ivy’ as more likely.

To me, thought, September is about football - especially high school football. On a cool September evening I can still hear the sound of drums thumping and the flood lights glowing and cheerleaders yelling as the bus pulled into the stadium (City of Atlanta schools played at city stadiums instead of at the schools.) I don’t go down there anymore without a gun, so it’s safer to hang around my home town - though I did go see my grandson play in his middle school band at the home football game. I worked the chains and had a ball.

I like September, too.

I like September too! We LOVE college and high school football games. We have season tickets to our high school alma mater and Friday nights become our "date night". The seasons are changing and the anticipation of the upcoming celebrations make it a really fun time. Happy Birthday AM! :)

goodness, who could ever forget YOU??

you must know, purle pansies are my FAVORITE flower.

and I went looking for them to put in my bed yesterday....but alas, it's still too early for them here, I bought plum petunias instead, also pretty and will last another 3 months or so, but just not pansies ya know?

Good for you reminding everyone about the reason for "Patriot Day" as they now call it...
