Finally Friday!!!

The week is quickly closing, and none too soon.
It hasn't been a 'bad' week. It's simply been one of those weeks, I've been anxious to say, "See Ya!"

It began with John leaving...I honestly don't get it. I'm the mom of four adults, they have grown into responsible, productive members of society (every mom's dream). My oldest daughter has been living on her own for 13 years! She's an extraordinary wife and mom! My youngest daughter is an outstanding wife and mom, along with being a hard-working RN. My oldest son enlisted in the U.S. Air Force ten years ago (stay tuned later this month, folks - tissue warning!) He has grown to be everything I could have ever dreamed and more! And then there is my baby. Unfortunately for John, he was the last child I carried under my heart, so forever he is stuck with this title. As I mentioned earlier in the week, John was home for the long 4th weekend. And then he left for Wright-Patterson, again. And the "Vegetable Soup of Emotions" began. I miss him. I miss B. I miss my daughters being little girls. I miss being the young mom, with all the young mom worries. Being the older mom, brings on bigger worries. Being the mom of two Airmen, brings on enormous worries! Being the mom of two moms, brings on gigantic worries! Please understand, I accept that I have no control over my children's lives...and this is a good thing. Except when they hurt. My oldest daughter has carried hurt in her heart for the past two months...not knowing what is going on with the baby girl she is carrying. Today another test was done, and it appears that this brand new life will be OK. Answered prayer!

So the week went on....As the world mourned the passing of Michael Jackson, there was no mention of the 88 active duty soldiers who committed suicide so far this year. While the nation remained glued to their televisions to watch the memorial service of Jackson, was anyone praying for the 13 fallen soldiers since the first of July? While the newscasters and talking heads are busy focusing on an entertainer, our nation has gained 13 new Gold Star Moms. These moms loved and cared for these heroes, long before our country knew who they were! Please visit Department of Defense every once in a while and read the names of our fallen heroes! Then please join me and lift a prayer.

In closing...I just happened upon this video (although it was created back in 2007!)
It's a light-hearted, silly video. Since I needed a bit of goofiness, I figured I share it with you!
SSGT England in IRAQ singing to his wife and kids in the good ole US of A. (please pause playlist on right sidebar).

I just came in to thank you for stopping by to see me and was caught up in the emotion of your post. I was a Navy wife (hubby spent 30 years in the US Navy, I spent the last 18 of those with him) then I spent 15 years as a Deputy Sheriff and I can tell you that life is like that all over...just when you think you have a moment to take a breath along comes a feather to knock your breath out...it's usually a feather...we couldn't take a boulder. But we get through it. Women are stronger than anyone gives us credit for being...we fall apart in private because doing so in public would be admitting defeat. My prayers are with all your children, especially your two brave sons. And by the way, I agree about the coverage of MJ...it was disgusting. And some people I'm sure turned on their tv's to be sure he was still dead...not his fault...people can be sheep. I don't want to be a wolf, but a big hairy sheep dog would be nice. Hugs to you my dear new friend!

My thoughts exactly! I used to have bookmarked a good site with faces and stories of the fallen. I was looking for it yesterday and wanted to send it out to remind folks. We have got to counter this wall to wall MJ coverage. Our military guys and gals are just too precious. There is never a good day to lose a son, but on July 4th--yikes. That hurts my heart for those families.

Do you know of a good rememberance site that has faces and stories so it is not just numbers, but to put a face on the news?

Thanks, Joyce

Great post AM!

God Bless your sons for their service to this great country.

What the media reports as news is so very disappointing today. They have forgotten who the heroes are and where they are.

I will not forget them.

I have always loved that song in the video. Seeing that guy singing it was great.

When my son married, it was a big relief. I knew he had a wife to love him and take care of him. I find that I don't have to worry about him like I used to. But I remember the days when he was off at college and the worries. When he came home and then went back, it would set off all sorts of emotions. I am very thankful for his wife. My daughter is not married, and there are lots of different worries there. She is a wonderful young lady, but there are still the every day worries when she drives off to work or goes off with her friends or rides her motorcycle...I pray for a husband for her and hope that it takes away some of the worries. But after reading your worries, I guess us mothers are always mothers.

I loved that video!

I cannot agree more about the MJ news coverage. I spent any free time I had last weekend searching for news of the missing GI in Afghanistan and information on those who were wounded (pretty desperate at times because a certain viruason of yours neglected to mention he was moving bases and would be out of touch)and it was so aggravating to see nothing on the computer and the news reports other than MJ and his services and his will and such. It just reinforces the fact that it is up to us left here at home to support our military and let them know that theay are always in our thougths and prayers.

I'm happy to hear everything is ok with your daughter and her baby, she's been in my prayers. I hope you have a good weekend to help make up for your icky week.

Great video. I'm sorry about your tough week. Being a mother is a lifelong job, and the heartaches don't ever go away. Your children are so lucky to have you.

And, to answer your question, there are many of us who feel as you do, and who are praying every day for our brave soldiers. The media may be missing the mark, but the heart of America is with them.

you're a mom - you're supposed to worry! my husband AND his stepbrother are both in the military and they're both been in over ten years, and she still worries about them every day!

Sounds like a heck of a job you did raising your kids. I know I'll miss having little kids too.

The MJ thing has me incensed as well. The media makes me sick with their priorities.

By the way..I bet your readers with little ones would appreciate some advice on how to go about raising successful kids.

So many years and I keep thinking that I would like the bad times to pass, but with them the good would pass away as well. So I will try to enjoy them as I am going along.
Thanks for the reminder of family and life.

Hopefully enough people read my blog post today and finally "get it" about the whole MJ crap and the unnecessary attention paid to him when our troops are still out there needing our support.

Have a great weekend, AM.

AM,
Great post and oh, how true...

My bestest friend left today for A'stan. Will I worry? Heck yeah, I will. Until the day I see his face again back at home.

Loved the video, too. Thank you for the brief respite.

jeanne...I thank you for your prayers for my daughter. Yep, it was a bit of a concern when my virtuason was quiet, at the time of the announcement of the missing soldier. I do hope he had let his mom know he was safe!!!
Thank you so very much for stopping by!

becky... thanks for the affirmation! I tell the story of seeing my oldest son off at the airport a couple years ago; we hug, I cry...he asks, "Ma, will the day ever come when you don't cry at the airport?" I asked him, "Do you want that day to come?" Mom tears roll, as needed!

hammer..I have enjoyed reading your posts regarding MJ, we need our voices heard! Thanks for the kind words!
Ah...I've made too many mistakes along the way, to ever give advice to anyone. I love my kids with all my heart and pray for them constantly... I am eternally thankful they have grown into the fine adults they are today!!!
