The Afghan Elections

Elections are taking place today, August 20th.

As I read countless articles regarding the possible outcome of this election, as I read of the support slipping for the war, as I read all about numerous polling places shut down in Ghanzi, as I thought of our soldiers working to help the people of Afghanistan, as I prayed for the families of Fallen Soldiers over the years of this conflict....the song, "If I Had A Hammer" entered my mind.

Well I've got a hammer
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
All over this land
It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom
It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

PP&M is one of my all time favorite groups. Every time I hear one of their songs I have flashbacks of laying around someone or others apartment toking, joking, drinking and listening to them and Joan Biez and other folk groups. But I never believed in or followed their political leanings and, in fact, had many arguments and physical contact over Viet Nam. I didn’t like the war, but I supported the boys fighting it. No one disrespect a serviceman or woman in front of me.

I hope some good comes from this election, but I fear it will be decades before any real change comes about. Go here http://afghanquest.com/ and read Morgan (Old Blue) who is a brilliant writer and Army fighter serving in Assgainastand. He even helped clear up my comment, too.

Great song.

I am praying for the best. It just seems like very little is right in that country.

coffeypot...the words to the song (not all the political stuff that went on in the 60's) danced through my head...as I thought, here in America we are so blessed!
I always appreciate your words, thanks for stopping by!
